Poem in your Pocket Day - April 29, 2022

For the last several years,  UWSP Libraries   has celebrated   National Poetry Month   in April with our key event being   Poem in your Pocket Day ,  April 29, 2022.  This year, we will have poems available in various locations around campus for you to take, enjoy, and share. Be on the lookout on Friday, April 29.  We also have a great collection of featured Poems from Home   recordings from the following UWSP campus contributors: ·     David Arnold  (English) reads “ Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird,”  by Wallace Stevens. ·     Michael Estanich  (Theatre & Dance) reads “ Falling Ship ,” his original poem. ·     Sue Kissinger  (Academic and Career Advising Center) reads “ There Once was a Puffin ,” by Florence Page Jaques. ·     Carrie Kline  (University Library) read “ Yes ,” by Rudy Francisco. ·     Kyle Neill  (University Archives) reads “ Annabel Lee ,” by Edgar Allen Poe. ·     Laurie Petri  (UWSP Marshfield Library) reads “ The River’s Gift ,” by Peggy Turnville. ·    

Earth Day!

April 22 is Earth Day and brings environmental issues to the world's stage. With roots in Wisconsin honoring Gaylord Nelson 's legacy as a champion for environmentalism, people and organizations around the globe participate through awareness campaigns, planting trees, clean up efforts, protesting against hazards to the environment, and reducing our carbon footprint.  The UWSP Libraries is fortunate to have a vast collection of books about Earth Day and related subjects, including a recently published children's book by Joyce Sidman, celebrating the Earth and poetry, "Hello Earth! Celebrate National Library Week!

National Library Week   (April 3- 9, 2022) is a time to celebrate our nation's libraries, library workers' contributions and promote library use and support.   The theme for National Library Week 2022 is "Connect With Your Library."  During the pandemic, library workers continue to exceed their communities' demands and adapt resources and services to meet their users' needs during these challenging times. Whether people visit in person or virtually, libraries offer endless opportunities to transform lives through education and lifelong learning.  You can celebrate with the UWSP Libraries by uploading a selfie for a Read poster. Read posters will be included in a virtual gallery and shared on social media.
