A Legacy of Opportunity: Honoring Mary E. Reinhart at UW-Stevens Point
We are very excited to announce that the main campus library will be named the Mary Reinhart University Library, opening in late 2026 when we move into the new Library and Student Resource Center building! This new name recognizes the extraordinary generosity of Mary E. Reinhart, whose estate gift will impact generations of UW-Stevens Point students.
Through her gift to the UWSP Foundation, Mary created two endowed scholarships designed to meet students where they are and open doors to their future:
-
The Mary E. Reinhart Retention Scholarship, which provides immediate financial assistance to students facing unexpected emergencies—so one obstacle doesn’t force them to abandon their education.
-
A scholarship for students pursuing library science, ensuring they have opportunities to advance scholarship and access to knowledge in an ever-changing academic landscape.
Mary’s ties to UW-Stevens Point run deep. Her father, Harold Reinhart, graduated from what was then the Stevens Point State Normal School in 1924. Nearly a century later, Mary’s gift reflects the same spirit of resilience, curiosity, and community that has shaped UWSP for generations.
As University College Dean Gretel Stock noted: “A single act of support can change the trajectory of a student’s life. Her scholarship fund will help ensure that students from all backgrounds have a real shot at success, starting on day one.”
Although Mary passed away in 2023, her vision endures. The Mary Reinhart University Library will serve as a living tribute to her generosity—a place where students will continue to discover their purpose, pursue knowledge, and thrive. Her legacy is more than financial—it’s a torch passed forward, ensuring opportunity and access for years to come.
