The UWSP Libraries has many materials available for community members! All you'll need is a community patron card to access these opportunities.

How to Get Your Community Patron Card

If you are a Wisconsin resident who is at least eighteen years of age, you can visit the circulation desk on the first floor to apply for your card. You'll need:
  • A government ID with your current address
    • If your ID has an old address, please bring a piece of mail with your current address
  • An email address
The employees at the circulation desk will help you apply for your community patron card.

What Can Community Patron Cardholders Access?

By using your card, you will be able to access all the physical materials inside the UWSP library and the UWSP at Marshfield library. That includes the books, DVDs, CDs, board games, puppets, puzzles, and more!

To browse the available materials, visit the library catalog at Search@UW. When you search the catalog, be sure to choose only results that are physically held at UW-Stevens Point or Marshfield. You can filter your search results using the options in the left-hand menu.

Bring your own device to campus and use the UWSP Guest Wi-Fi network to gain access to some of the research databases subscribed to by the UWSP Libraries. Some databases may require additional logon credentials, which are not available for community patron cardholders, but most databases are available to those connected to campus internet. Contact our reference librarians at library.reference.desk@uwsp.edu to learn more.

What Can Community Patron Cardholders Not Access?

There is no access to materials held at other University of Wisconsin institutions, although patrons can visit other UW libraries to apply for a community patron card at that location.

There is also no access to the campus computers or printers. For public access to computers and printers we recommend visiting the Portage County Public Library.

Community patrons are not able to check out bicycles.
