Explore our Updated Library Catalog

In July of 2026 the UW-Stevens Point library catalog will be updated. On the surface this will look like only design updates, but we are also making Search@UW more functional and accessible.

The base functionality of Search@UW has not changed. Users will find the new tools and page layouts to be incredibly similar to what they are used to.

What has changed:

  • You have a cleaner home page with more search input options.
    • You still have access to our 24/7 chat service in the bottom right corner.
    • You can still type or speak your search terms and can still access the Advanced Search functions, including an initial resource type filter.
    • We've added an AI input to better process your full-sentence searches.

An AI search for the phrase "I want to learn about bears" brought up mostly educational and academic resources about different bears. There were many fewer picture books in this search result.

This AI input isn't a research assistant. It will not summarize your results. Instead, it will attempt to find a wider variety of related terms than what you searched for.

In the search above, the AI didn't just search for "bears", it also searched for the scientific name "ursus" and tried to bring in related terms like "habitat" and "species".

A search for "black bears" in the old version on the left, and in the new version on the right.

A search in either version will get you the same results. We haven't changed our library holdings or the filter options; we have updated your search experience.

What has changed:
  • We're using more of the screen, showing you more information for each result before you begin adding filters or opening catalog entries.
  • Our search filters are more accessible. By keeping checkboxes visible, they are more easily recognized by patrons and assistive technology.
