Welcome Matt Sonnenberg! New Instructional Materials Center Assistant
The University Library is pleased to announce that Matt Sonnenberg is the new Instructional Materials Center (IMC) assistant.
Matt will coordinate the daily operations of the IMC as well as assist patrons using this area. He will provide support for various library projects, including our new 3D printer, streaming videos, ebooks, digitization, and graphic creation.
Matt hails from Nekoosa, WI, about a 45 minute drive from
Point. He graduated from UWSP in 2009 with a B.A. in History and broad field
Social Science. During his time at UWSP, Matt competed on the Track and Field
team as a thrower. After he graduated, his first library job was at the Lester
Public Library of Vesper, and that planted the seed for pursuing his MLS from
UW-Milwaukee. In 2010, Matt worked in the Circulation and Reference Departments
at the Portage County Public Library before starting here.
Matt also coaches the throwing events for the UWSP Track
& Field team. In his free time, he likes to train for the throwing events,
read, and spend time with his wife, animals, family, and friends (in no
particular order). He also enjoys music, like most humans, and listens to a
little bit of everything, though Pink Floyd is probably his favorite due to his
father’s influence (and he’s excited about their new and likely last album
coming out next month).
“Stealing” a bit from the Proust Questionnaire, here are some more fun facts about Matt:
Which talent would you most
like to have?
The ability to function on
less sleep. Just too much stuff to do in a day!
What is your current state of
mind?
Excited; mainly for my new
job and also the start of the track season. A lot to have on the plate all at
once, but I prefer it that way.
What is your favorite
cuisine?
Overall probably Italian,
though I try to expand my palette when I can….within reason.
Where is the last place you
traveled?
Within the state was St. Germain a couple weeks ago for a
camping trip. Out of the state was Delaware, Ohio for the NCAA D3 Outdoor Track
& Field Nationals last May.
Who are your favorite
writers?
I am currently enjoying
making my way through Malcolm Gladwell’s works, and recently finished Jared
Diamond’s most recent book. I also enjoy knocking classics off my list when I
can, so add in a little Dickens, Dostoyevsky, and Plato for good measure.
What is your motto?
At the end of every day you are shorter of breath and one
day closer to death, so make the most of what you’ve got while you’ve got it.
